Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral, typically pale green to yellow-green, often translucent with a waxy luster. It was the first mineral to be named after a person — Dutch colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who brought specimens from South Africa to Europe in the 1780s. It forms in low-grade metamorphic rocks and in the vesicles of volcanic basalt.
